Friends of Music

The Friends of Music is a group of interested parents who generally meet every third Tuesday of the month in term time in the Boardroom, 123 Marshall Street, Ivanhoe at 8.00pm. The aims and objectives of the Friends of Music are to support and promote music within the School community and to create friendships by this common interest.

The Friends of Music fosters and maintains a close link between the School community and music staff by:

• assisting with funding of music ensemble tours
• assisting with stage management and supper at music functions

We have established a perpetual Shield and Certificate which is presented to the winner of the Golden Note Solo Competition. We also fund, every second year, a two-year music tuition scholarship awarded to a student for her final two years of music tuition at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School, which is presented at Celebration Night.

Recently, we have purchased School Banners for the music stands, a portable sound system and mixing desk as well as purchasing portable sconce lighting for the music stands.

All parents of present and past students are automatically members of the Association and we encourage interested parents to join our friendly and informal group. To attend our meetings it is not necessary for you to have any musical knowledge or for your daughter to be involved in School music.
