Carrying the School Values Through Life After School

Ivanhoe Girls’ Old Grammarians’ Association (IGOGA) continues the five core values of the School – Bravery, Vibrancy, Curiosity, Connectedness and Kindness. The School instils these values from ELC to Year 12 and extends them to staff and families.

The shared values give common ground across different cohorts – alumni from decades ago and recent graduates - fostering inclusion, respect, and connection despite generational gaps. IGOGA is effectively the embodiment of those values beyond graduation: it sustains and extends the community, fosters relationships, supports growth, connection, generosity, and generational continuity.

Connectedness
IGOGA’s mission centres on maintaining and strengthening relationships among former students, and between alumni and the School. Connectedness as a value underpins the sense of belonging, respect, empathy. Alumni stay connected across generations, backgrounds, and careers.

Kindness
Alumni interactions - friendship, support, mentoring, volunteering - all benefit from kindness. Kindness supports a generous spirit: alumnae offering time, experience, resources to support the School or other graduates. It helps foster welcoming, inclusive, and supportive networks.

Curiosity
Alumni are often drawn back to the School and to each other through curiosity - interest in what other Old Grammarians are doing, openness to learning from their experiences, exploring opportunities for collaboration, mentoring, or contribution. Curiosity sustains lifelong engagement beyond just nostalgia.

Vibrancy
A vibrant alumni association thrives when members are active - participating in events, volunteering, leading initiatives, sharing achievements, giving back. IGOGA’s events, networking and “giving back” opportunities reflect that vibrancy. Alumni keeping the community alive, dynamic, and forwardlooking ties into this value.

Bravery
Alumni often take leadership roles in IGOGA — stepping up to volunteer, support the School, reach out to others, sometimes champion causes or new initiatives. Bravery underwrites the willingness to speak up, connect across generations, and contribute to progress, even if it means stepping outside comfort zones.

By asking alumni to stay connected, to give back, to support future generations, IGOGA helps ensure the School’s legacy, values and community lives on beyond just the current students.

Values like Kindness, Connectedness, Vibrancy and Curiosity ensure the alumni community remains alive, relevant, and beneficial to both individuals and the School.

As President, I invite all alumni to participate in an IGOGA event in 2026 that attracts their particular interests and skills - whether it be Golf, Careers Night, the annual Generations Breakfast, Reunions, Mentoring, Networking, Singing, Archives or supporting the planning for our 125 years of Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School celebration in 2028.

Connect viathe Alumni Portal to stay connected to opportunities that may arise throughout the year.
