The inaugural IGOGA Fellowship has been awarded to Mia Koufalas (Class of 2021) and Lilian Xu (Class of 2018).
The Ivanhoe Girls' Old Grammarians' Association (IGOGA) Fellowship recognises the sense of social justice and commitment to community service that is fostered at Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School and carried forward by many graduates. The IGOGA Fellowship provides a $5,000 grant to support the successful applicant(s) in launching or expanding a community impact initiative.
The standard of applications for 2026 was high and clearly demonstrated the enduring values of an Ivanhoe Girls’ education.
Applicants displayed an impressive ability to identify genuine community and environmental challenges and to develop thoughtful, practical and well-researched solutions that potentially make a meaningful difference.
Mia’s project centres around supporting a poorly resourced Sri Lankan hospital with provision of hand sanitisers and teaching about infection control. Lilian’s project ‘Ludis’ recycles used tennis balls, or the tennis ball rubber 'crumb', into shoe soles, making positive contributions to climate change, microplastics and land use issues.
IGOGA and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School look forward to following Mia’s and Lilian’s projects for the remainder of 2026 and across 2027.
Ms Suzanne Lees (Class of 1975)
President, Ivanhoe Girls' Old Grammarians' Association
