Across our classrooms and beyond, students and staff embraced opportunities to learn in ways that challenge convention and spark innovation. These experiences remind us that education is not confined to a timetable or a building; it is a dynamic, lifelong journey.

As you read this, I will be away for my sabbatical during Term 1, an opportunity to step away from routine and immerse myself in deep learning. This time will allow me to reflect, research, and explore ideas that will shape the future of our school. It is a privilege that underscores an important truth: growth often happens when we create space for exploration, when we allow ourselves to go “off timetable” and think differently.

2025 was rich with learning experiences. From academic achievements to co-curricular successes, our community demonstrated a willingness to embrace challenge and change. These qualities serve us well as we prepare for the next exciting chapter: empowerED. Every day as I drive past the active building site which will house our empowerED program from mid-2027, I am inspired by the vision taking shape, a space designed for creativity, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and deep thinking. It represents more than bricks and mortar; it symbolizes our commitment to reimagining learning, to creating environments where curiosity leads and innovation thrives. Soon, this site will transform into a hub where students step beyond routine and discover what it truly means to learn without limits.

Our students experience this same principle during their end-of-year programs. These initiatives break from the traditional classroom structure, inviting students to engage in hands-on, immersive learning that challenges them to be off timetable and discover new perspectives. One Year 7 student captured this perfectly during the Habitat to Home program at the end of 2025: 

“I wish we were just doing timetabled classes. I am thinking so hard!” 

This simple statement speaks volumes. Real learning stretches us. It demands effort, tenacity and perseverance. It is in these moments of challenge that growth truly happens.

Education is not a straight path; it is a lifelong journey that calls us to seek out challenges, explore new perspectives, and learn in ways that surprise and inspire us. As we create new opportunities for the future, I am excited to partner with you as we continue to nurture a culture where curiosity leads the way, and where stepping outside the box is not the exception, but the expectation.
