Thanks to the fundraising efforts of IGGSPA, the Senior School Gymnasium has been equipped with a extensive range of new fitness equipment.

The Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School Parents’ Association (IGGSPA) are an integral part of the School community and aim to provide meaningful connections between parents, friends of the School, staff and students. Like other school associations, IGGSPA have a longstanding tradition of financially supporting initiatives and programs that enhance the School offering and directly benefit students.

IGGSPA has provided the School with new gym equipment.

Late in 2019, IGGSPA were approached by the Physical Education and Sports Department who presented a vision to create a new and improved space for students to exercise and develop their athleticism. The current gym space was not being utilised as the equipment was out dated and was no longer meeting the needs of the students. Participating in regular physical activity provides many benefits for physical and mental health so this was a project IGGSPA were delighted to get behind!

The new equipment is housed in a refurbished section of the Gymnasium.

Sports staff worked closely with a leading gym equipment supplier to develop a proposal for new equipment that was accessible, easy to use and that would help promote a lifelong love of physical activity amongst students. The School’s Maintenance Department stepped in to provide much needed cosmetic updates to the space including new paint, flooring and lighting.

A $45,000 contribution from IGGSPA has enabled the transformation and created a fitness space that is desirable, safe and welcoming.

This project is a wonderful example of how together as a school community we can make a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of students.
