After high school, I studied a double degree in Arts and Visual Arts at Monash University, which included a year at James Cook University while living in Cairns. I later moved to Fremantle, Western Australia, to join my sister and began a Master’s in Community Development.
During this time, I started working for Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia (DADAA), an organization focused on art for social change. While I didn't finish my Master’s, I have since returned to Murdoch University to tutor in Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) .
About nine years ago, I renovated a cottage in South West of WA and set up a short-term accommodation business that I recently sold. My career has included five years with Martumili Artists in the Pilbara and an incredible opportunity working at the Australian Pavilion for the Venice Biennale.
I am currently based in Fremantle, WA, working for Desart a peak body for Aboriginal Art Centres. I am working on a national project that allows me to visit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Centres across the country.
The best parts of my work are the travel and working with incredible artists and arts workers. The travel side can be challenging and tiring at times but my younger self would have dreamed of doing what I am doing now. What advice would you give a current Ivanhoe Girls' student regarding the future?
Some advice that I would give a current Ivanhoe Girls' student for their future is to follow what interests you and to volunteer with organisations that align with those interests. You never know what doors might open; just keep following the thread.
