From Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September, we celebrated Health and Physical Education (HPE) Week at School – a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and champion the value of Health and Physical Education across our School community.
HPE Week highlights the important role that Health and Physical Education plays in helping young people develop the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to lead healthy, active and connected lives. Throughout the week, students from Prep to Year 11 were introduced to a range of new and exciting activities during their PE classes, providing them with different ways to move, have fun and stay active in their everyday lives.
Our PE classes were certainly full of energy! Students from Prep to Years 7 enjoyed dance sessions, while Year 8 students took on Ultimate Frisbee. Year 9 got moving with Hoopercise, Year 10 embraced their inner performers with Hip Hop, and Year 11 finished the week dancing up a storm. It was fantastic to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, trying something new and discovering that being active can take many different forms.
Our Health classes also got involved in the celebrations. Year 7 students made healthy muesli, Year 8 students put their creativity and healthy eating knowledge to the test by designing healthy bento boxes on a $10.00 budget, and Year 9 students took a trip down memory lane by revisiting some of their favourite childhood games.
Lunchtime was where the HPE Week buzz really came alive! Led by our fabulous Sports Captain, Joanna H, and the year level sports captains, Monday lunchtime featured a School-wide scavenger hunt. Students raced around the School, completing six different activities, with prizes up for grabs for those who successfully completed the challenge. The excitement continued on Thursday with a Years 7 – 12 Dodgeball competition in the Gym, which brought plenty of energy, competition and laughter.
The week finished in spectacular fashion with the inaugural Year 12 students versus Staff Netball Match. It was a friendly competitive contest, with an electric atmosphere in the Gym as the majority of the Senior School came along to cheer on both teams. There was plenty of skill, determination and fun! In the end, it was the Year 12 students who claimed victory, taking the bragging rights for 2026.
A huge thank you to our HPE staff, Joanna H and the Sports Captains and all the students who embraced the week with such enthusiasm. Most importantly, HPE Week reminded us that Health and Physical Education is not simply about sport or exercise. It is about developing lifelong skills, confidence, wellbeing, resilience and a positive relationship with health and physical activity. Health and Physical Education is an important part of everyone's lives, and it was wonderful to see our whole school community come together to celebrate its value. What an amazing week!
