A Phenomenal Year for Ivanhoe Girls’ in Snowsports!

They finally got to hit the snow with an intense five-day training camp over the July School Holidays which saw 36 dedicated students brave everything from snowstorms to rain, sun, and gusty winds at Falls Creek. Through it all, their commitment and determination never wavered, showcasing not only their skill but their resilience in the face of unpredictable conditions.

Competition followed quickly in August with the Victorian Snowsports Cross Country Championships. We had 36 students from across Years 5 to 12 compete. All the students did their very best and made us proud!

Some highlights from the day:

  • Our Division 2 team were crowned champions in the Classic race, and then claimed bronze in the Relay race
  • Our Division 1 team achieved silver medals in both the Classic race and the Relay race
  • Sport Captain, Fiona Finch also stormed home to claim a podium finish for the individual Classic race with a silver medal!

Our small (but mighty) Alpine Ski team also competed at the Victorian Championships, flying down the slopes in the beautifulsunshine, representing Ivanhoe Girls’ with pride.

Backing up their performance at State level, our Cross-Country skiers had a phenomenal day at the Australian Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller in September with an impressive sixteen competitors qualifying for the National Championships. We are incredibly proud of all skiers who competed, and it was great to see athletes from both Junior School and Senior School competing with enthusiasm and determination.

There were medals galore with our Division 1 Classic team of Fiona Finch, Kate Bukovsan, and Connie Bai winning gold. Likewise, our Division 1 Skate team of Connie Bai, Ruby Clemons, and Fiona Finch took the silver medal, while our Division 2 Classic team of
Bethan Chugg, Ruby Clemons, and Rachel Crosby, and Division 2 Skate team of Rachel Crosby, Kenna Bai, and Bethan Chugg both won bronze medals. Our combined results saw Ivanhoe Girls’ ranked as the second best Cross Country Ski team in the country!

A huge thank you to our wonderful team of coaches and parent volunteers for their dedication to our skiers.
