Each year, National Simultaneous Storytime celebrates the power of stories to strengthen literacy, spark creativity, and foster a sense of connection among young readers across Australia.
By sharing the same story at the same time, students at Ivanhoe Girls’ connect with children all over Australia, highlighting the important role reading plays in children’s learning and development.
Now in its 26th successful year, this vibrant event promotes the value of reading and literacy through an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a shared reading experience.
This year’s book was Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake A. Minton. Luna Roo was read across Australia in libraries, classrooms, preschools, childcare centres, homes, bookstores, and many other settings.
Here in our Junior School Library, Year 5 students enjoyed the story with their ELC Buddies. Across Junior School classrooms, students discussed the book and created their own illustrations inspired by the story.
Luna Roo explores themes of courage, teamwork, and perseverance, while celebrating the fun of playing for a team and cheering others on.
