Our School Learning and Curriculum in Senior School

Ivanhoe Girls' provides every student with the opportunity to find individual passions in academic and co-curricular learning, pursuing them to her full potential.

It is important for students to develop an awareness of themselves and appreciation of others. The flexible nature of our timetable allows students to share classes with many different groups of students, exposing them to varied teaching and learning styles, building resilience and confidence. As students progress towards VCE, they develop more mature and independent ways of working.

We aim to provide an education that challenges our students, leading to powerful and progressive thinking.

Throughout their schooling girls learn best in a stimulating, collaborative environment where their individuality and interests are valued and encouraged. Our curriculum has been designed with this in mind and provides opportunities for students to develop creative and entrepreneurial skills.

The classroom and pastoral care programs work together to enable students to develop an awareness of their own spirituality and appreciation of the beliefs and needs of others and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Our students learn in different ways, in different settings, taking on the roles of leaders, team members, collaborators and independent learners.

During Year 9 students embark on an enquiry-based journey, completing hands-on activities in small groups, learning to use new and old technologies such as 3D printers and laser cutters as well as common hand tools. They learn design principles and apply their knowledge to interesting tasks.

Information technology is routinely integrated to enhance learning and to provide our students with the skills they need to be confident users of technology. Communication networks are an integral part of the learning environment and provide valuable links between school and home.
